Happy Thanksgiving!
Your library will be closed during Thursday, November 22 and Friday, November 23. We will be working on a project during that time so stop in during our next regular opening hours to see what the project is!
A huge thank you goes out to the North Dakota Community Foundation for a $2000.00 grant we received. We are truly grateful for the funds! We will be ordering many new books for our patrons. They will be both large print and regular print. If you have any requests of authors you’d like to read, please tell a librarian and we’ll do what we can.
A few new books this month are:
Holy Ghost by John Sandford – This is #11 of the Virgil Flower series. Virgil is investigating a shooting in the small town of Wheatfield, Minnesota. Wheatfield’s claim to fame is a sighting of the Blessed Virgin Mary, bringing many strange people to town. More shootings happen. There is a lot of Virgil’s humor in this book.
Lilac Girls by Martha Hall Kelly – This book is inspired by the life of a real World War II heroine. It follows the lives of three women; a New York socialite working in the French consulate, a Polish teenager working in underground resistance, and a young German doctor, trapped in a male dominated realm of Nazi secrets and power.
We have a couple of older books (but new to us) by Kristin Hannah. Many of you like to read her books so we’re filling in a few of her older books. The most recent are Between Sisters and Home Front.
We have what’s called the Epic of the Century. Ken Follett writes big books, meaning lots of pages. This historical fiction series includes #1 Fall of Giants - #2, Winter of the World and #3 Edge of Eternity. This series follows five families, American, German, Russian, English and Welsh. The first book follows them through World War I, the Russian revolution and up to Women’s Suffrage.
The second book takes place during the rise of the 3rd Reich, the dramas of World War II and into the beginning of the Cold War. The third book includes the 60’s – 80’s, Civil Rights, Vietnam, Berlin Wall, Cuban missile crisis, presidential impeachment and rock and roll.
The Girl in the Spider’s Web by David Lagercrantz – Lagercrantz has taken over the Stieg Larsson characters. Larsson wrote The Girl with the Dragon Tattoo series. This continues with Lisbeth Salander, computer hacker, and her friend (?) Mikael Blomkvist. Again, they deal with a world of spies, cybercriminals, and government operatives. This book has just come out as a movie but we all know the book always better!
We have been working hard on adding books to inventory. We have over 8000 books in your library and we haven’t entered many of the children’s books. Look on the website, www.finleypl.org to see if we have what you might be looking for.
Remember, we’re closed during Thanksgiving but back at regular hours the next week - Thursdays from 6:30 to 8:00 PM and Fridays from 2:00 to 5:00 PM. |
