February, 2017

It all started with two very generous donations. Your library received  $ 1000.00 from the Finley Improvement Association and $ 500.00 from the Finley Community Endowment fund (also funded by the North Dakota Community Foundation, a statewide funding agency). Now we could start some improvements.

We’ve needed new bookshelves forever and we got a good start on this these past couple of weeks. Two husbands of board members, Bill and Bob Paulsen, did some measuring, ordered the lumber and proceeded to construct 9 shelving units, replacing the cinderblock and board shelves. We so appreciate the donations for us to be able to finally do the upgrades, and, to Bill and Bob for using their time and expertise to make it happen.

Three sections of shelves went into the resource room, three for regular print books and three for the large print books. The shelves are taller than we had so we’re able to make a little “wiggle room” on the shelves in those areas. We were getting crowded – what a good problem to have!

In addition to the new shelves, we have bought a new comfortable office chair, a side chair and 10 stationary chairs for our “meeting” room.  The Finley Book Club meets in the library once a month so we are able to provide some comfortable chairs for them .  An upcoming project will be new flooring for the main, front area of the library.

Can anyone help us?? We’re looking for library board minutes from the 60’s, 70’s and 80’s. Does anyone know who was on the board then and where those minutes may be? If you do, contact a librarian or board member please.

We now have a great assortment of jigsaw puzzles for you to check out. When you stop in looking for a book, take a look at the puzzles. It’s just the right kind of weather for working on a puzzle.

Jennifer Braaten has just donated her collection of 13 books by Louise Penny. They are a series of books starring Inspector Armand Gamache. Grab book #1, meet the Inspector and help him start solving murders.

Other new (to us) books are:

Serendipity by Fern Michaels    Follow the transformation of a heartbroken girl into a proud, sophisticated woman facing a magnificent destiny.

A Soldier’s Revenge by Matthew Dunn   Jack Reacher fans should enjoy this espionage thriller.

Below the Belt by Stuart Woods   Stone Barrington is back!

Badlands by C.J. Box   Set in the North Dakota badlands. From oil to money to drugs to the dirtiest criminals wanting to corner the market.

Winter Garden by Kristin Hannah   An epic love story set in WWII Russia.

I’ll See You in Paris by  Michelle Gable   Based on the real life of Gladys Spencer-Churchill, the Duchess of Marlborough.

Lost City of the Monkey God by Douglas Preston  A few weeks ago, on the CBS Sunday Morning TV show, there was a story about a group searching in Honduras for a lost city. Douglas Preston was on the show and has written this book about the search for the city. The book was released in January, 2017. It’s a true story with pictures. It’s quite the expedition!

Recent paperbacks are:
Hidden Leaves by V. C. Amdrews
One Breath Away by M. William Phelps
The Liar by Nora Roberts
Feels Like Family by Sherryl Woods
